Unprecedented growth in clean energy demand in UAE, region: Emerge

ABU DHABI, 21st May, 2025 (WAM) — Michel Abi Saab, General Manager of Emerge, a provider of solar energy solutions, has affirmed that demand for clean energy is witnessing unprecedented growth in the UAE and the wider region.

In 2024 alone, Emerge tripled its capacity compared to the previous year, reflecting the accelerating shift among organisations towards carbon neutrality and operational cost reduction.

Speaking to Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of Make it in the Emirates, Abi Saab said that Emerge was established in 2021 as a joint venture between UAE-based Masdar and France’s EDF Group. The company specialises in decentralised solar energy, energy storage solutions, and integrated hybrid systems, both on-grid and off-grid.

He noted that demand for Emerge’s services is growing rapidly, particularly as the UAE remains committed to achieving net zero by 2050. “The market in the UAE has matured and become more receptive to adopting clean energy solutions,” he added.

Abi Saab explained that within just three to four years, Emerge secured projects with a total capacity exceeding 250 megawatts across the region, with over 100 operational sites. “Our client base includes key partners such as ADNOC, Sharjah National Oil Corporation, SeaWorld, Coca-Cola, and other major institutions, all leveraging our solutions to reach sustainability targets more cost-effectively,” he said.

He added that Emerge’s growth extends beyond the UAE to include the Saudi market, which is witnessing increased interest in solar energy and storage solutions.

“We particularly focus on medium to large companies, as their impact is more significant and can drive real reductions in emissions and energy costs,” he said.

Abi Saab announced the signing of three new agreements during Make it in the Emirates. One is with a local steel manufacturing company based in Abu Dhabi, for the installation of a 1 megawatt solar power station. A second agreement was signed with a local manufacturer in Ras Al Khaimah to install a solar energy system with a storage solution.

“The third is a memorandum of understanding with Emirates Development Bank, aimed at providing the necessary financing to accelerate the implementation of solar energy projects across the UAE,” he said. “This partnership will enable us to support companies of various sizes, particularly those looking to adopt clean energy but lacking access to required funding.”

Abi Saab expressed confidence that the company’s growth trajectory would continue into next year, driven by declining costs of solar and energy storage technologies and strong national commitments to net zero goals.
